The Llama-rific Adventure

It all started with rabbit named Ash.

My daughter decided to join a 4-H club after she had the opportunity to show one of her aunt’s sheep at a local fair. So, we bought her a rabbit as her first animal project. After being in the 4-H club for two years with Ash, she decided that she wanted to try a second animal project, and decided on a llama. We leased a llama from the 4-H leader for a bit but soon after bought our own llama. Once we laid our eyes on Stitch and heard his cute little humming noise, we just had to buy him! Stitch was nine months old when he came into our lives and this began the start of our llama-rific adventures. A year later, we started to look for a friend for Stitch. We found an ad about some llamas that were abandoned and were in need of good homes, so we rescued one. Erza was approximately five-years-old when we gave her a new home.

Six months later we moved to Powell River. Stitch and Erza were not happy only being a herd of two, as they came from a herd of seven. Since we had a male and female, we decided to get another male and female pair. We found our pair, Amelia, a three-year-old female and Bleu, a one-year-old male.

Now almost four years into our llama-rific adventure, we are excited to continue with our adventures in the years to come.

People always ask me, “What is the difference between a llama and an alpaca?”. Instead of explaining all the time the differences, I got an alpaca (Tucker) so I can show people. Tucker is fitting in well with his new llama friends.

Stitch went on an adventure of his own and went to live with one of his 4-H buddies (Pickles) in Qualicum Beach. We will miss him but we go to visit him and he may come back for a visit one day for an event.

Amelia went on an adventure as well, she went to go live in Coquitlam with her sister and 3 alpacas. We will miss her but she is happy with her new family and will be doing 4-H again next year.
